I use this app every day. On my way to class, I stream shows. I download entire shows (and sometimes single songs) and listen to them on the subway when I have no cell connection. Who needs to buy music or use an iPod when you can listen to FREE music by great artists on your phone? Check it out and let me know what you think.

If you want to check out my buddy Sanders' page on Vibe Vault, you can find it here.
This is the best app I have been able to find for the LMA. I just wish there was a way to browse the archive by artist then year (i.e. see a list of all artists and be able to choose) rather than just a search function. Is there any chance that functionality would be added to your app?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Hey,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback. I like your idea, but a problem with listing all artists is that it is a bit overbearing to scroll through all 4,000+. Maybe we can have the artists alphabetized and collapsed by letter? We will definitely look into it. If you have any specifics with features you want implemented, or ever think of any, feel free to post them on our google code page at http://code.google.com/p/vibevault. You can add things to issues, the wiki, or take a look at the source. Thanks again!
perhaps even having an online list of what people could possibly search up would be good so were not just grasping at straws hoping to find somthing lol
ReplyDeleteIf you went to my Vibe Vault page (andrewpearson.org/vibevault), you would see that such a list does in fact exist. We're possibly adding an autocomplete feature to a future release that will suggest bands that are on the site. Here's the link to the list for you:

I was very excited to try this, so I installed it and I can't open it. It says it was forced to stop unexpetadly and to try again later. Let me know if there is a fix for this.
ReplyDeleteIf you submit the error when it force closes, or you hook it up to your laptop to get a debug trace, I would be more than happy (I would really appreciate the bug report) to diagnose and fix whatever is causing VibeVault to not work on your phone.

I love this app. The search could use some work. For example the maximum items to display is 50 and when you browse something like the dead in a year like 1977 when there are 100's to choose from, after clicking more the list always starts back at the top. Maybe a more granualr search? Especially for us deadheads that know exactly where we want to go an a given year. Othrwise this app rocks. it's right next to audiogalaxy on my home screen.
ReplyDeleteThanks

Thanks for your feedback. I totally agree. Sanders (the other dev) and I have been talking about this for a while. I will add it to our next version (which you should expect very shortly). We've got some awesome new features in store...
ReplyDeleteCan't wait...must have it now......
ReplyDeleteSeriously though thanks for all the hard work.
Loaded the droid v3 a few days ago and it worked for two days and now says no downloadable content for any or every show I try. tried force close/ de install reinstall etc..no dice.
ReplyDeleteSomeone else I recommended it too has the same thing happening with his
We are aware of the problem and working on a permanent fix. We really appreciate the comment, and will have a fixed version ASAP. The problem is that the Live Music Archive (where the songs come from) changed their website structure. We will have a fixed version in the next day or two or three. Thanks for your support, and we hope that you stay patient for the fix.

Andrew-
ReplyDeleteI just downloaded the new version. When I pull up shows it says "show not parsable...) and then goes to the standard comment about show not downloadable.
wait. I tested it on about 9 different shows while putting in that last comment. It just worked on a From Good Homes show 1997-11-07
ReplyDeleteWhat shows are erroring out? I will check it out.
ReplyDeleteis it possible to use this on my pc? using real player is so slow and frequently shuts down in the middle of dl.. thanks
ReplyDeleteVibe Vault is for Android only (unless Apple decides to give me and Sanders free Macs and iPhones to develop on). If you want to access this collection of music from your computer, head over to archive.org and check it out.
ReplyDeleteGreat app, and love that it's open source too. I see the download on the page you linked to, but is it also hosted in a source code repository like GitHub, Sourceforge, etc? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHey, sorry to take so long to get back to you. It's nice to hear that you enjoy the app and that you are interested in the source code. We have a Google code page that you can check out: http://code.google.com/p/vibevault/ . I haven't pushed our code to that page (or to my website) because I've been busy lately, but I will try to get it up this weekend.
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you have any questions about the code. We put a lot of time into making sure that it's readable and efficient.
Thanks again, and enjoy VV.

Great, thanks! I'll check it out this weekend after the push. I'm interested in seeing how easy it would be to add last.fm support. Thanks again!
